Born in Daly City, Steve's martial arts training began at the age of 5 with Judo at the Boys and Girls Club in South San Francisco.  Achieving first place finishes in local tournaments, at the age of 10 his parents decided to place his training in the hands of Olympic Judo coach Willy Cahill. The strength and discipline of Judo helped him to excel in another sport, baseball.

At 13 he put most of his energy towards his dream of playing Major League Baseball. With hard work, determination, and luck he received an athletic scholarship after high school.  He played college baseball in the high and heavenly altitude of Denver, CO. Being a student as well as an athlete, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.

The dream of professional baseball didn't come to fruition, and as a result Steve put his energy into a heavy weight training regiment which brought him from 170 lbs to 210 lbs. On his way to the gym one day he ran into Daniel Agid, an old friend and fellow martial artist, who introduced him to boxing and Pradal Serey (Cambodian Kickboxing). Since then, he fell in love with the sport and has been training diligently with Kenya Prach for two years. He has now shrunk back down to 150 lbs!
